Measure V Bonds At Work

All existing Hart District schools will benefit from expansion and renovation programs listed for funding under the Hart District's Measure V General Obligation Bonds. The projects are based on the needs of campus safety, class size reduction and information technology, and the need to bring existing campuses up to standards which will be set as the Hart District opens new schools.
Depending on the needs of each site, the Hart District plans to install energy efficient lighting, update wiring and plumbing systems, repair or replace worn-out flooring and roofs, deal with aging air conditioning and heating systems and replace furnishings and equipment as needed. Projects based on campus safety include emergency communications systems, perimeter fencing, unsafe ground surfaces, landscaping and accessibility.
Classrooms also will be added at some of the existing schools to replace relocatable classrooms which are in use until permanent buildings are available. Permanent classrooms will have the additional benefit of releasing the Hart District from the cost of leasing portable classrooms, which currently absorbs more than $1 million in funds each year that the Hart District could use as part of its local match to build new schools.

New grading System in Newhall School District

Getting rid of the traditional A-B-C the Newhall school district is trying a new geading system consisting of numbers in different academic areas. This technique will help identify specific areas of need for the students rather than giving them a sum of these areas into one subject, such as english or math. The new report cards will grade students on many different things including items as specific as consequences of the American Revolution. The grading system will be implimented this upcoming semester.
